Ross said yesterday at the Geek Factory that more people should post about Patriot II and he is right. In stealth mode, while I was out of the country traveling, Bush took the opportunity to sign parts of the bill into law. O.K. the real news occupying the channels wasn’t my travel, but the capture of Saddam Hussein.
But I am back and I agree with John:
This is a very big deal. Not just because of the law itself – it’s heinous – but because of the way it was passed by the Bush administration – on a Saturday, during Saddam’s capture celebration, after an unaccountable voice vote on Thanksgiving with no debate. And of course the media did not pay attention, and of course, I hope, we will.
Update: The hair raising analysis of the EFF was about Patriot II, not about the bill that has been passed. Thanks Ross. Unfortunately this text is the only thing to go on.
While checking whether major news sources have picked the story up by now (negative), I stumbled over the following excerpts from an upcoming book Is America Sick? that the Sydney Morning Harold has posted. Interesting read.
