Candle and Mulled Wine Dia de los Muertos

A picture named dia_folks.jpgAs every year, Dia de los Muertos was very nice. There was no better day to christen the new wooden deck in the back of my little cottage. We grilled and started there already with some mulled wine.

Then we walked with candles over to the Mission district to join the parade. First we were only standing on the sidewalk every one of use a candle in his hand, and people were coming up and taking pictures of us.

We must have looked like a choir for many people, it also helped to have John with his top-hat and great face paint in the group. Some even came up and started to conduct and animated us to sing. Then we followed one of the musical bands.

I say that every year, but one day I will get my act together and find some musicians to play New Orleans funeral songs. A couple of years ago I once followed one group and that music just exactly reflected the situation, A picture named dai_mulled_wine.jpgyour ancestors being close, therefore mourning, but also celebrating with them, because they are so close that night.

What I also like a lot is, that this event is almost free of any commerce, well this time I saw two merchants offering flashing skulls. They sold a lot and I am sure more will be back next year, which is sade.

Mila took the pictures of this post and some more that you can find here.

Thanks to everyone who came and made it such an exceptional afternoon and evening.
