Christmas Donuts

Tree Lighting at Union Square in San Francisco 2008

Last Sunday we where in San Francisco and ended up on Union Square. Even though it was the week before Thanksgiving, therefore mid November, they were already busy setting up the Christmas tree. There were even some protesters holding up signs against this tendency to start Christmas earlier and earlier in the season. I am just glad that there is Halloween at the end of October, that is a natural barrier, although one could say the same for Thanksgiving and it is clearly not working.

It is not easy to put into words why I feel uneasy about the whole thing. Seeing that richness displayed while we are at war, just doesn’t feel right. It is also so far removed from the original meaning of celebrating Christ being born. Nothing that others haven’t pointed out much more eloquently.

Christmas Donuts

Nina was pointing to Macy’s window and said: “Look Christmas Donuts” ;-)
