Sprudel-Schokoladen-Kuchen
June 5th, 2004 | by Mark Finnern |
My lovely sister Nicole send me a really easy recipe for a Sprudel-Schokoladen-Kuchen (Sparkling Water Chocolate Cake). On the phone she said, it is really easy, everything is measured in cups (which in Europe it usually is measured ing grams.)
So I tried, and of course not everything was measured in cups, 200g of grained Hazelnut. I just did an approximation.
To the right you can see the result. It was really yummy.
Here is the recipe:
- 200 grams crushed hazelnuts
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 package vanilla sugar (I just took a couple of drops of vanilla extract)
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup cacao
- 1 cup sparkling mineral water
- 6 eggs
- 1 cup of oil
Throw it all into a bowl and mix it up. (Lazy me used the bread machine for that.) Put it into a form and let it bake for 55 minutes at 180′C (~350′F). Use a toothpick to check whether it is ready. Enjoy.

Hello,
I am looking for the original Sprudel Water from Germany. If anyone knows what I am talking about, please drop me an e-mail.
I have looked everywhere for this.
Thanks.

I too would like to find some. I lived in Germany in the early sixties and remember drinking it as a kid.

Hi Ed,
As Helga wrote you can get Gerolsteiner Sprudel at Trader Joe’s. Hope there is one in your neighborhood. Or San Pellegrino is the Italian version.
Enjoy, Mark.
